The crops were finally planted and on their way, the building site surveyed, top soil stripped and levelled and ready for excavation. The store’s complex floor plan with its numerous step-ins and outs made layout a challenging exercise in geometry, but when finally accomplished, we were able to excavate for the strip footings.
Following that we had to re-survey and re-establish the buildings’ layouts for footing form construction. Much measuring, form cutting, levelling and a few mistakes later, we were ready to lay rebar and arrange for a concrete pump and pour.
Sandwiched into this activity was garlic harvest as well as regular picking of the strawberries, raspberries and diverse vegetables.
Finally, “P-Day” (Pour Day) arrived and it was all hands on deck. We squeezed in the 120 foot boom pump truck as the concrete trucks formed instant gridlock in our farm’s driveway. The weather was beautiful and the pour of both buildings went quite well.
