Welcome to another issue! We began to publish this paper to let
people know about the products and activities of Harvest Haven.
Experiencing the products for ourselves, and knowing their
importance and value for health, it was only right and good
that we should tell others, and share with them the good things
available to us in this world. As we have gone along, however,
we have found that our products, as good as they are, like
tasty, nutritious organic food, Grander Living Water, the Chi
Machine, Electro Reflex Energizer, and FIR Dome, only go so
far. Though they are, and deal with, the basics of life, it
is only of the physical and mental life, and not the spiritual.
We have learned for ourselves, and see so with others, that
in order to truly have a real, healthy and good life, we must
address the foundational issues of life, which are spiritual.
The Spiritual
Jesus said, “The thief comes not but to kill, to steal,
and to destroy. I come that they might have LIFE, and that they
might have it MORE ABUNDANTLY” (John 10:10). Which scenario
are we experiencing? Who is more real in our lives…the
thief, or Jesus Christ?
I, Victor Hafichuk, owner of Harvest Haven Market Farm, have
walked with the Lord now for over thirty-one years. He first
made Himself known to me thirty-two years ago, revealing to me
that I needed to have a major life change, or perish, one or
the other. I was a mess, physically, mentally, socially, economically,
and pretty much in any other way one can think of. Oh, it was
not that noticeable to people. It didn’t look quite as
bad as it sounds, but for those who had understanding and discernment
(not that it took all that much), there was no doubt that I was
not living the abundant life by any standard of measure. I was
being destroyed, slowly but surely.
God took a hold of me in February of 1973, at age 27, and thus
began life, and the journey to recovery. Is Jesus Christ a liar,
or a fool? I can tell you, staking my life on it (and I have)
that He is neither. He knows what He is talking about, means
what He says, can and has delivered on His promises for all of
us here at Harvest Haven. We owe everything, and I mean everything
to Him. We were all pulled out of the mire of this world and
lifted up to be seated in heavenly places with Him. It is His
work, and not ours. We are nothing; He is everything.
So now, what does all this mean in our business here? Jesus
Christ addressed the foundational issues in my life back then,
decades ago, and continued to do so since. I am saying that we
can eat all the organic food we wish, drink the best of water,
and have the use of all good things, and sell it all to you,
yet if we are not right in the soul and spirit, we may as well
be putting makeup on a corpse in a coffin. It is written, “Meats
for the belly and the belly for meats, but God shall destroy
both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for
the Lord; and the Lord is for the body” (1 Corinthians
6:13).
It also says: “For bodily exercise profits a little,
but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of
the
present life, and of that which is to come” (I
Timothy 4:8).
Every day we see people perishing, in varying degrees and paces.
We see people desperate, searching for solutions, for quick fixes
for their health and their problems, and we see where we once
were, and know how we came out of such states. If I can tell
you anything good, if anything true, and valuable, it is that
unless we turn to the Lord, repenting of all our sins, discontinuing
to break His laws, turning from living lives independent of Him,
we will indeed perish. It is only a matter of time. To His hearers,
who spoke of others tragically perishing, Jesus said, “Do
you suppose that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans
because they suffered such things? I tell you, No. But unless
you repent, you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:2-3).
I was perishing, and so were every one of us here, but thank
God, He made Himself known to us, showed us the way to go, and
now we live that abundant life He promised. We also recognize
that He is the One Who has given us the great blessings of health,
this farm, organic food, Grander Living Water, Chi and Hot House,
and many other wonderful things, like faith, peace of mind, purpose,
joy and thankfulness. These have all been fruits of obedience
to Him, through faith and love, not because we are better than
anybody else (we certainly are not), not because we deserve anything
good (none of us does), but because He has shown us unmerited
favor.
The abundant life awaits all who turn to Him with all their
hearts, and even that, He must give. I was not seeking for God.
I had no interest in Him at all. None of us did. He started to
draw us toward Him, and now we are with Him to share the truths
and secrets of that abundant life with all those who care to
listen, heed, and receive. He is very life itself. As it is written:
“In Him was [and IS] life, and the life was [is] the light
of men” (John 1:4).

This is written by Paul Cohen, Manager Level Distributor of
Helena, Montana.
Recently one of my HTE machine owners called me in a bit of
a panic. “Paul,” she said, “Lorin (her husband)
has been having a really rough time. I am taking him to the emergency
room almost daily. I need to get him some relief from pain by
using the Electro Reflex Energizer. Can you go over the instructions
for me again for using those pads?” Now Lorin is 81 years
old, a veteran of WWII, with shrapnel shoulder wounds that still
afflict him, plus other conditions such as Parkinson’s
and sleep apnea. Additionally, the VA hospital has him on so
many drugs that there are complications and mix-ups that have
led to more problems.
I asked Irene if they had been using the machines. (They have
the Chi and Far Infrared Dome, too.) “No,” she said, “we
haven’t been for awhile.” They had found them helpful
when they used them. When feeling better, they stopped.
This is especially difficult to hear, because these machines
are beneficial even when feeling well. Used regularly, they produce
results over time. Anyone can be prone to slipping from good
habits. The machines are no guarantee to keep all illnesses at
bay, but I do know that they will help keep one from the doctor’s
office IF THEY ARE USED REGULARLY. Many of you have attested
to this. More benefits are possible by regular use. These machines
are important for “healthcare” as well as “sickcare.” You
can’t say that about drugs or surgery.
We have watched people try to do something when it is too late.
Of course, it is necessary to try, but benefits come by preventative
treatment. The seeds are always being sown, and the crops are
always coming on.
With the HTE machines you have something that is not only good
for you, but also feels good. Why deny yourself present pleasure
for future futility? There is a better way.
By the way, the ERE, by using the electro pads, did help alleviate
the pain in Lorin’s shoulder. He says all of the machines
have been very worthwhile to own and use.
Victor’s note (“Vic” = “Edi”): We have had some Chi, Hot House, and Energizer owners who
found that regular use of their machines helped a great deal.
One woman, suffering many ailments, who said she was experiencing
no benefits for months using the Chi, finally had a wonderful
breakthrough. “I didn’t believe I would ever have
the energy I do now. I have more than I ever had! I feel great!” she
enthusiastically declared. She is nearly fifty. USE THOSE MACHINES!
We do. We love them, AND THEY LOVE US!
You’ll not only greatly help yourself, but you will want
to share with others who need help. Let’s face it: most
people are not at optimum health; such a bird is rare. Many of
us need all the help we can get.
Grander Living Water
Here is what several happy Harvest Haven customers and users
of Grander continent-wide have to say:
“The number one indicator for health is good internal
pH. We used the Grander system with tap water, bottled, and distilled
water, and in each case Grander made the water more alkaline
(better for health). That is why I recommend Grander.” Deidre
Howard – Nutritional Therapist – Rocky Mountain Natural
Medicine Clinic, Hamilton, MT.
“Grander improves drinking water, and your body absorbs
it better. The Grander board also keeps vegetables fresher.” Steven
Hasheider – Sag Harbor, NY.
“Using Grander makes the water taste better. Also, the
Grander board improves the flavor of other beverages. And I am
amazed at how my animals choose Grander-treated water over untreated.
It must be good! (My rooster loves it; he is 23 years old.)” Carol
Larkin – Owner Billy’s Organic Food & Lifestyle – Hamilton,
MT.
“Hydration levels of Grander users goes up 10% – 15%,
if not more. I view Grander as something people need to know
about and have.” Dr. Benjamin Licht, DHC – Deerfield
Beach, FL.
"Grander takes the bitterness out of the water. It makes
the water smoother. It also seems to reduce chlorine. And I LOVE
IT!!” (His emphasis) Jeffrey Lewis, Montclair, NJ (Jeffrey
works with energy medicine, and is a very high level Young Living
Oil distributor). NJ and NY have bitter water in places.
“We have noticed our well water is not as turbid. Within
2 weeks of installing Grander the hard water scale on our faucets
started to come off. We use less soap with better cleaning results.
We are drinking more water. My skin feels better; I use less
lotion, and have less itching. Our animals are drinking more,
and look healthier, as do our plants.” Maria Elings – Conrad,
MT.
“Our water is unfit, on so many levels, all around this
continent. Anything that holds the potential promise to rectify
this problem is worth trying. For that reason I am using Grander.” Dr.
Timothy Binder ND, DC, Lic. Acu. – Hamilton, MT.
“By the use of kinesiology I have found that Grander supports
oxygenation of the body, which helps with detoxification.” Bette
Wulf – Helena, MT.
After buying a Grander Penergizer, Vanessa Stasiuk of Lethbridge,
AB, reports, “I noticed a big difference with my plants
when I started to use penergized water for them. Whereas they
always looked rather limp, they perked right up, with some of
them showing rather amazing growth.”
“When I have cut flowers in a vase, they keep for no more
than three days or so, if that. Now, with Grander, my flowers
are fresher, and last a lot longer. It works, alright.” Gwen
Olson, Welling, AB.
Many can testify to that! Animals and plants tell the story.
At the house at Harvest Haven, there was a half-inch Grander
on-line unit (besides rods at the source). We found out at the
Grander conference in Austria last spring that one should never
install a unit smaller than the water line. We replaced the half
inch with a three-quarter inch and what a difference! We removed
the water softener, finding the water even softer without it
now that we have the larger Grander unit. The dishes come out
cleaner, glasses are clear, and the water feels that much better.
Therefore, our apologies to those for whom we tried to save money
by selling them a smaller unit than is necessary. We will try
to help those wishing to upgrade to the proper size for their
homes. You will find that it is well worth it. We did.

Organic or non-organic?
Jenny Thompson of Health Sciences Institute e-Alert wrote this
interesting article about organic food:
In terms of health, the choice is clear. But that doesn't mean
it's an easy choice. If you're like me, every week you brace
yourself for that shocking moment when the cashier at the grocery
store hits the "total" button and you try not to yelp
out loud. So I'm always looking for ways to reduce my grocery
bill, not increase it. But there's no getting around the fact
that if you buy organic rather than non-organic, you'll almost
certainly end up spending more.
So is it worth the markup? Ultimately, that's a personal decision.
But to help answer that question, let's take a look at a report
on organic foods, recently published in "Coronary and Diabetic
Care in the UK 2004."
Pest control: The organic foods report (prepared by the Soil
Association – the UK's counterpart to the USDA) addressed
eight key topics of food cultivation, processing and nutritional
content, starting with pesticides.
This is probably the main element that most people associate
with organic foods: that they're pesticide-free. What's not so
well known is the connection between pesticide use and the antioxidant
content of food.
In the e-Alert "Quite Contrary" (3/27/03), I told
you how crops that are stressed by insects produce polyphenolic
compounds, which are naturally potent antioxidants. But crops
that are treated with pesticides don't need the natural protection
of polyphenolics, and produce less of the compounds. So when
crops are denied pesticides, consumers get a double benefit:
better nutrition without the residue of chemical pesticides in
the food.
The UK report noted that pesticide use has been associated with
a variety of health risks, including cancer, fetal abnormalities,
chronic fatigue, and Parkinson's disease. One study revealed
that women with breast cancer are five to nine times more likely
to have traces of pesticides in their blood than women who don't
have the cancer.
Additives out: Organic foods are free of food additives such
as MSG, hydrogenated fats, and artificial sweeteners and coloring,
which have been associated with a risk of asthma, headaches,
growth retardation, and hyperactivity in children. These additives
have also been linked to the development of allergies - another
of the key elements of the UK report.
Genetically modified (GM) organisms are also not allowed in
the production of organic food. The report notes that only ten
studies of GM foods have been conducted. Among those, the ones
that were completely independent of funding or input from companies
with GM affiliations found evidence of harmful effects in the
gut lining of humans.
The report cautions that until GM crops and food products are
properly tested, "people are, in our opinion, wise to avoid
eating GM food."
High C: Besides the obvious benefits of not ingesting pesticides,
additives, and GM organisms, organic foods have been found to
be more nutritious than conventionally grown foods. The Soil
Association conducted a study to compare the vitamin and mineral
content of organic foods vs. non-organic foods. The organics
won out with higher levels in all 21 of the examined nutrients.
The vitamin C and magnesium levels in the organic foods were
27 percent and 29 percent higher, respectively, compared to the
non-organic samples. And minerals were found to be significantly
higher in organic spinach, potatoes, cabbage, and lettuce.
Similar results were reported in tests of organic livestock
animals that foraged for fresh food compared to livestock that
was given processed feed. The organic livestock had higher concentrations
of omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) - two
key nutrients whose value is well known to HSI members.
Coming around: For several years, the UK's Food Standards Agency
(FSA) didn't officially recognize any difference between organic
foods and conventionally grown foods. But the UK organic food
report indicates that the official view may be changing. At a
public meeting last year, Sir John Krebs, the Chair of the FSA,
admitted that organic food contains fewer residues of pesticides
than foods grown by conventional means.
So if you're fortunate enough to have access to fresh, organically
grown produce, the next time you're given the choice between
lower priced conventionally grown food or higher priced organic,
just ask yourself: Which would Sir John buy?
This issue’s story is about a not often featured member
of our farm. He is part of the official greeting committee for
customers. It is our black lab cross. A family that was moving
from the country to the city brought Buddy to us when he was
about a year old. According to them, he had a rough start in
life. His mother apparently had singled him out as a small pup,
dug a hole, buried him and left him. Fortunately, someone heard
a whimper coming from the pile of dirt and rescued him. Maybe
partially due to this, he seems to have a few insecurities. He
is an especially big baby when it comes to thunderstorms.
This spring we were in the process of replacing our deck. Buddy
had loved the old deck and comforted himself on it during storms.
We had just torn out the old, and gotten up the framework for
the new one. One night, about midnight, as an electrical storm
was rumbling in, we were awakened by terrified yelping and wailing.
Mark, rising from sleep, went out with his hiker’s headlamp
to find some way to pacify Buddy so everyone could get back to
sleep. Thinking Buddy may calm down if he tied him up a little
closer to the house, Mark took him over to the new deck framework
and tied him there. After a few minutes of attempted consolation,
it was starting to rain so Mark, in his headlamp, shorts, T-shirt
and rubber boots, turned to head back to the house.
Suddenly, in the dark, he heard the sound of claws scrambling
on wood and an alarmed “YIPE!” Aiming the headlamp
to see where the noise came from, and wondering what in the world
was going on, Mark saw Buddy, wide-eyed and spread out in a superman
flying pose, straddled across the floor joists, stiff as a statue.
Obviously, he had forgotten, in his panic and the dark of night,
that the deck floor was no longer there. He leapt, expecting
the familiar deck boards, and instead, found only wide open spaces!
(Aren’t wide open spaces good?) He froze! As if the electrical
storm wasn’t enough! Undoubtedly, Mark’s appearance
and mood didn’t help either.
No amount of encouragement and coaxing could get Buddy to make
his way back to the edge of the framework. So, tired and grumbling,
Mark scaled the joists over to where Buddy was straddled, stock-still.
He could not get the animal to move. Balancing himself on wet
joists, in his shorts and rubber boots, trying to position his
head to aim the headlamp in pitch darkness and rain, Mark pried
him up, all eighty pounds, turned him 90 degrees and lowered
the terrified pooch down between the floor joists. Buddy must
have been very thankful to be alive, because we never heard another
peep out of him that night. The question that begs to be asked
is, “What if the joists had been running the other way?
In our experiment, we concluded that the main difference between
dogs and elephants is that dogs forget. It is possible that we
could have established other differences as well, especially
with a double blind placebo study. However, given the federal
government’s propensity to finance less important projects,
and given our limited funds for decks, we didn’t think
that trying the same thing with elephants was feasible at this
time.
