Harvest Haven Health - HERALD ISSUE 5

We promised we would not have a regularly timed issue of the Harvest Haven Herald. Those kinds of promises are easy to keep! I am glad we didn’t promise this paper to be published on a regular basis. The last one was published in January. The way I see it is that we print because we have something to say, and not say something because we have to print. I hope that never changes.

Even though four months have passed, it seems longer. So much seems to be happening in this world. BSE has had its impact on ranches and farms big time, while government financial aid has gone to American processing plants, Lakeside and Cargill, who reaped profits at the expense of all Canadians. The Liberals gave it to them, and the Conservative politicians defended the rights of Cargill and Lakeside to keep the books away from scrutiny and taxpayers’ justice. The farmers and ranchers go broke, and consumers see no difference in the price of meat in the stores. So whom do you vote for? That will be answered in the next segment.

The chemical industry, conventional animal husbandry, and ignorant government are responsible for the BSE disaster. If this is news to you, let us help. We travelled to the Picture Butte Auction Mart to hear Mark Purdey, a researcher/farmer from England. He travels all over the world to publish the truth about BSE, proving present theories and policies foolish, and exposing the real culprits of BSE. His poster reads: “Let’s take the BS out of BSE.” His lawyer and his local vet, both sympathetic to his cause, have died in single vehicle accidents. His phone lines have been cut, his barn/library burned down, his driveway blocked by protestors to prevent him from meeting with UK government officials, and his medical research hijacked/plagiarized. The godless, mercenary power brokers of this world are calloused and merciless. They will stop at nothing for profit.

At present, the Avian flu virus is having an impact on industrial chicken farms. Again, they experience the consequences of how NOT to farm, of how NOT to treat animals (birds included). These examples are on the surface, though few seem to know why these disasters happen. But what about the pandemic cancers and multitudinous diseases ravaging the population? How do you think those are caused? The pharmaceutical/petrochemical industries are waging a war on us, indiscriminately, far outstripping the death toll of World War II. By agreeing with them, and buying their products, we have it coming to us.

War in Iraq has taken its increasing toll on Americans and others in the world, and it does not look good at this point. For example, one would think there would have been great discretion used in the handling of military, economic, social, and moral affairs there. Did not America go in there with the trumpet of morality? “We are going to free those poor Iraqis and give them hope?” Then we see what the military does to the prisoners, and as if that was not enough, we did not scratch the surface of what they have done. America, you are paying and will pay for your sins, surely! Who are you to preach what is right, and not pay attention to what you do yourselves? For that reason, your sons and daughters will suffer. How can it be otherwise?

Again, I must turn away from the negative, which is there, without question or debate, and turn to focus on our only true hope, which, or Who, is also there, and Who will, praise God, prevail in the end!

Victory and Rest

In the same morning, May 14, 2004, while hundreds of miles apart, brother Paul and I found to have received some revelation/inspiration from God, which agreed. This happening was not unusual (we have experienced it many times) but the revelation is what I would like to share with others.

Paul writes: “I was considering this morning as I read some psalms how the Lord sustains all, and is over all, and how He has truly hid Himself in the midst of it. What a marvelous thing! How great He is in that He is all-powerful and sovereign, yet not appearing, while manifest in everything.”

I replied to him: “Paul, what you received in the psalms was what I was receiving early this morning, that God is over all things, including not only actions, but also reactions. He is over the way each person is, and a purpose is ordained and being worked out by and through the way everybody is. Does that mean that we are justified in doing evil? Of course not. We must repent, but above that, there is that UNDERSTANDING that He is the Engineer of, and in control of everything that exists. Knowing that, and knowing His intentions and what He is like, that He is Love, for example (love being unselfish, and perfectly good intent), we can rest in spite of others and ourselves. We know that He is over all things, including the mistakes, the goof-ups, the evil acts...everything. We know that nothing occurs without His supervision and will. We know that He is all-powerful, in full control, and will have His way. Knowing these things is to rest, in spite of our circumstances. This is the victory.

Shall I strive to cease being angry or impatient, or intolerant, or critical? While it is up to me to endeavor to control my passions, to rule my own spirit, the victory is not in the controlling of those things, but in the knowledge that God has also purposed my infirmities and faults, and that of others. Therefore, I can rest, in spite of myself and all circumstances and people. If He alone matters, that is all there is to it. Victory does not come by overcoming self, but in knowing the Sovereignty of God, believing it, and resting. The resting is not the work, but the result of that UNDERSTANDING of God and His ways. It is that understanding for which we must labor, though it is a gift of God.

One can only believe God if he loves Him, and he can only love God if he believes Him. If he believes Him, he will obey Him, and do His will. His will is for us to rest in Him. "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He has sent,” Jesus said. (John 6:28,29)

What does it mean to believe in Him, that is, Jesus Christ? It is not a mere belief in His existence, or an approval of His teachings, or to do good for others, or to make or give sacrifices, or a profession that He is Lord. All these things are good and necessary, surely, but true faith must be more, and IS more. To believe in Jesus Christ means that we put our trust entirely in Him. To do that, we must believe that He is in full control, that He can and does everything He pleases, that He has our best interests at heart, and that He will therefore perform His will to perfection. Otherwise, how can we trust Him? To know that He is Love in full control, to have that understanding, is not only His will for us, but also His work, and the Way of Rest promised to our souls.”

Now to answer the question in the first segment, “For whom do you vote?” Isn’t it time we sought for the Kingdom of God, placing our trust (vote) in the King of kings, the Lord Jesus Christ? Why settle for less? He doesn’t buy our votes with our money; He bought them with His blood!

We had the honor of receiving Richard Chuang, recently appointed General Manager of Hsin Ten Enterprises Canada, and Peter Poon, Marketing Manager, at our farm recently. Organic Food

“We Bought the Farm”

It is no wonder we have the Avian Flu Virus. Conventionally raised chickens are kept stuffed tightly together in windowless barns, don’t get to see the sunlight, don’t get to scratch and run freely, and are force-fed to gain weight quickly. These highly stressed birds are given antibiotics to prevent disease because the environment and conditions in which they are raised are highly conducive to disease. Their beaks are clipped to prevent fighting in such close quarters. Chickens are treated as stupid creatures. Are they?

Here is a true-life story. Our chickens get to roam the yard in the sunshine and fresh air. Because they go everywhere (free ranging?), we have had to shut the back doors to the storage area behind the store. One day, Marilyn noticed a hen hanging around the front entrance, trying to get into the store. She chased it away. Then she saw the hen trying to enter through the front window, repeatedly flying up onto the ledge. Marilyn decided to open the front door and let the hen in, to see what it wanted to do. The hen walked in, headed through the store to the back door, which divides the store from the back storage area, and there it stopped. “Knowing” that Marilyn was watching her, the hen walked about as though having no particular purpose. When Marilyn hid, pretending to be gone, the hen immediately jumped up to a shelf. There she settled herself onto a nest of eggs which she had laid before the back doors of the storage area had been shut!

Questions: If chickens are so stupid, how did the hen know a possible way to her nest at the back, from the front, through the store? She had never travelled that way. How did she know to conceal her nest? How did she know to withhold its location when Marilyn was watching? Instinct, you say? What is instinct? Perhaps we could all use some? I think there are people who could learn a few things from chickens, especially those who subject them to inhumane conditions such as exist in industrial farming.
