Harvest Haven Health - HERALD ISSUE 3

We have been very busy here at Harvest Haven. We have been planting, sowing, harvesting, haying, and continuing with improving our infrastructure, in terms of buildings, equipment and irrigation, along with doing all the daily chores on a farm. We have been busy in our store, improving things there, adding some product, selling Chi Machines, HotHouses, Energizers, and Grander Living Water Units, along with other wonderful products to improve and maintain good health. As well, we have entertained several guests from near and far. It has been very good.

What a world we live in today! SARS, West Nile Virus, Monkey Virus, Mad Cow Disease, with the taxing ban on Canadian beef, horrendous forest fires just miles away, unprecedented heat waves in Europe, taking 15,000 in France alone. There are water problems, with floods in some places and record-breaking drought in others. AIDS continues to ravage our planet. And what about cancer? One in two men, and one in three women will contract it in a lifetime. It is very sad to see so many afflicted. Then there are all the other common maladies, like asthma, allergies, arthritis, angina, acute this and that (Is that why the doctor sticks a depressor in your mouth and asks you to say “aaaaah”? The “h” must be for Hepatitis). This is surely a day of pestilence, is it not? And what about the wars? Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and more, with terrorism to fill in where wars are not, namely the US.

Furthermore, “gay” marriages are legalized, the Bible is being considered in the courts as “hate literature,” farmers are struggling with one challenge after another, what with droughts, too much moisture, American boycotts, disease, and continuing power moves by multi-national corporations like Monsanto and Cargill who seek to control the food supply through genetic modification and other measures. The federal government continues to waste our money, and spend its time on all sorts of foolishnesses, instead of working on practical problems which could be so easily solved, given care and a half decent effort. This is a tough world in which we live. Getting tougher.

Enough of that! Let’s shed a little light into this miserable landscape!

Harvest Haven is all about bringing you the “cream of the crop,” the most basic and the best of what there is available. We are endeavoring to sort out all the claims in the market, to examine the efficacy and veracity of all things, to simplify the decision-making process for those who truly care. Do you really want to know how to simplify and to live a healthier life? I know we can help you. It won’t be easy, but it will be well worth it.

We seek to go back to basics, and when we do, costs in the long run, taking in all considerations, will decrease rather than increase. We are not after the cheapest but the best. The best holds the most value by far. Those looking for the cheapest will have to go elsewhere, and for that we make no apologies. I have long ago learned that the lowest price often reflects the lowest quality. “You get what you pay for” is often and usually very true. We hope you will understand, for example, that when you buy our strawberries, they will be chemical-free because we got down on our hands and knees with a 14” slot screwdriver to weed instead of “minimally spray.” Yes, labor does cost, but when the labor is there, replacing the shortcuts like herbicides and pesticides, the benefits are paid in health and pleasure The strawberries will be nutritious because we go to the extra trouble and expense of nourishing and fortifying our soils with quality, natural nutrients.. Examine and prove for yourself!

There are good things available to those that ask, seek and knock. God has not abandoned His creation. Yes, His judgments are surely present, as necessary, but He has also made available that which we can have and enjoy, if we are willing to see and do things His way. We hope we can facilitate that in whatever way possible and feasible. Lord willing, we will. Let’s begin with our categories:

Organic Food

Lamb: It’s that time again! Fresh, pasture-raised lamb for which we have received many a compliment. Order wholes, halves or preferred cuts. There is little that tastes better than lamb with fresh herbs on a barbecue! Place your orders now.

Chicken: Free range, organically fed broiler chickens and fresh soup chickens ready September 18 and 19. This is the only time of year we have them fresh. They look rather good this year. Place your orders now.

Produce: Fresh From the Garden vegetables and organic fruit from BC.

Can it not be said that at this point in time, only the foolish and ignorant can deny that the conventional approach to food production, processing, distribution, and diet systems is killing us? Here is an article with “food for thought”:

What You Should Know About the Food Your Child Eats

We would all like to believe that the government is looking out for us, ensuring that what we eat is safe. Unfortunately, this is not at all the case. For example, the method for determining government standards for “safe amounts” of pesticide residues in our food is in fact deeply flawed, indeed almost laughable, if it were not for the devastating consequences it has on people’s health. The “safety” standards are calculated based on how much of a particular pesticide an average-sized Caucasian male can consume daily without incurring a higher than, for example, a one in one hundred chance of cancer or other illness. However, what happens to people below “average” size, such as females, some non-Caucasians, or worse yet, children? Children are especially vulnerable because they have:
1) smaller body weights,
2) more sensitive and easily damaged growing bodies,
3) diets with significantly higher proportions of fruits and vegetables.
Furthermore, there is not even an attempt to calculate the cumulative effect, or even more serious, the synergistic effect (a 1+1=4 type scenario) of the multiple sprays present on most conventional produce, making “safe amounts” completely meaningless for children.

In a quote from a 1998 press release from the Environmental Working Group in Washington, D.C., it was estimated that “…every day, nine out of ten American children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years are exposed to combinations of 13 different neurotoxic insecticides in the foods they eat.” It goes on to say, “While the amounts consumed rarely cause acute illness, these "organophosphate" insecticides (OPs) have the potential to cause long term damage to the brain and the nervous system which are rapidly growing and extremely vulnerable to injury during fetal development, infancy and early childhood.”
Here are some other quotes from the same report:
1) “For infants six to twelve months of age, commercial baby food is the dominant source of unsafe levels of OP insecticides. OPs in baby food, apple juice, pears, applesauce, and peaches expose about 77,000 infants each day to unsafe levels of OP insecticides.”
2) “One out of every four times a child age five or under eats a peach, he or she is exposed to an unsafe level of OP insecticides.”
3) “In a small but worrisome percentage of these fruits, 1.5 to 2 percent of the apples, grapes and pears, and 15 percent of the peaches are so contaminated with OP’s that the average 25 pound, one year old eating just two grapes, or 3 bites of an apple, pear, or peach (10 grams of each fruit) will exceed the EPA (ADULT) safe dose of OP’s.”

In a 1997 report from the Natural Resources Council, pesticides were included in the five worst environmental threats to children’s health along with lead, air pollution, environmental tobacco smoke and drinking water contamination. In the same report it pointed out that in the last 50 years, more than 75,000 new chemicals have been introduced into the environment, with health experts becoming increasingly concerned about the role chemicals may play in childhood diseases, many of which are on the rise. Asthma rates, for example, tripled in the 1980s, and childhood cancer rates have increased. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently found pesticides in 65 percent of the nearly 7,000 fruit and vegetable samples tested (65 different pesticides were detected).

Of course, while children have the greater risk, the standards for even safe adult consumption are a farce. There is no sane reason why adults should be eating this crap, much less our children.

The alternative to all this is organic food. This is food grown without the use of ANY pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and in organic meat, without the use of any hormones, antibiotics, chemically-treated feed or any other chemical inputs. Organic food is not only also good for you but good for the environment in which you live and leave to your children. Why buy anything else?

Water!

Paul Cohen and I recently attended a Grander Living Water conference in Calgary. Attending were persons from as far as Idaho and California who had experienced impressive results with Grander Living Water technology. Paul had this to say:

I would like to convey to you two items that greatly confirmed and encouraged us in our bringing this marvelous product to you. We met two men who came from some distance to learn and share about Grander based on their backgrounds, experience, and expertise. One was Michael Nicholas, the gardener from the Lake Shrine of Pacific Palisades in Southern California. This two-acre lake is the result of ground water filling a rock quarry. As you may guess, such a lake, without outlet and collecting waters that have collected chemicals from the neighborhood, would become choked with toxins and be oxygen-poor from algae blooms. Such was the case; as one geologist labeled it, this lake is "a toilet that cannot flush". The result was very alkaline water, high in salts and quite hard. You could not see at all below the surface due to the proliferation of algae.

Along comes Grander, which the Shrine decided to use to treat the lake based on work done in Europe. After nine months of Grander treatment, Mike could report to us that the lake has cleared up and gets better every day! The high pH has dropped significantly, the fish and birds in and on the lake are healthier and livelier, and the plant life and gardens around the lake have flourished as never before using Grander. Hedges that were going to be pulled due to dying off revitalized and were restored, flowering plants produced long beyond and above what was normal, and Mike had to back off using the same amount of fertilizer as he was accustomed to, because the plants no longer needed it.

Mike's enthusiasm was contagious, he drove all the way from southern California because of what he has seen. He understood that if Grander could do this to a dying lake, what does it mean for your body if you were to bathe in and drink water so revitalized? Think about it!

The other man who inspired us (in particular, we found all Grander distributors to have something to contribute) came from the mountains of central Idaho. Jock Bell is founder of Trinity Springs bottled water, the deepest known spring source in the world (over 2.5 miles), and the only US water to qualify for the European designation of Naturlicher Heilwasser, or "Natural Healing Water". Jock spent 30 years in the US Geologic Survey working with various watersheds in the Rocky Mountain west. He said that Grander exposure has positive effects on Trinity water, even though this water is already of the highest quality. Grander imparts the highest order of natural information in the form of very high frequencies, causing the water to be restructured at the molecular level to heal and cleanse itself. Thus, when they bottle the Trinity Springs water in plastic, Grander treatment insures the water will retain the spring qualities it had in the ground.

As for the environment, Bell believes that Grander is a revolutionary technology that has huge implications for cleaning up and restoring our many troubled waters (as per the Lake Shrine). Again, if life can be brought back to the external environment by "Granderization," what about your internal environment, which largely determines your physical state and well being?

It never works, and you know it…or will. Stand up, buy the good, reject the phony, and you won’t be sorry.

- 2-day event (meeting will carry from 1:00 PM till Midnight on Oct 5 2003 & 9:00 am to 6:00pm on Oct 6 2003)

The Spiritual

Jesus Christ is Lord! The Holy Scriptures do declare:

For everyone, "whoever shall call on the name of the Lord (Jesus Christ) will be saved." How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without preaching? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Romans 10:13-15)

“We Bought the Farm”

No, the comedy of errors and infirmities has not been exhausted by any means here at Harvest Haven.

One day it happened that Ingrid was suddenly hyperventilating, an occasional occurrence since childhood. As she sat on a bench trying to get her breath, she desperately motioned for someone to give her something for her mouth. She was asking, of course, for a bag in which to breathe. Well, Mark, not knowing her problem, set down a bucket in front of her, thinking she was about to throw up on the deck where she was sitting. That did it! She angrily kicked the bucket away, as if to say (in no uncertain terms), “I don’t want a bucket, you dolt!!”

Guess what? Her problem ended abruptly, and she has not hyperventilated since! That was many months ago now.

One other problem, however, that has increased as a result of this incident, is the strengthening of Mark’s conviction that he always knows what he is doing! After all, he got results.
