Friends, we present you the twelfth issue. We hope you will find it interesting, informative, and beneficial. Originally, we had our categories of discussion planned, and followed that format for a while. However, things are always changing, including us, so we hope you will not mind the changes in this Herald. This one might be a “rambler” most or all of the way.

God Gives Trevor a Wife

In February of 1998, the Lord notified Trevor that He was arranging a wife for him. As many of you may know, Trevor and Ingrid were married July 22nd. Leading up to this event, there had been peculiar timings tied in with prophecy. If you are interested to know more, ask Trevor and Ingrid, who are willing to talk about these things.

They waited through four years of engagement, not for nothing. There were many spiritual, personal and relational issues dealt with, wherein the foundation was laid to ensure strength and stability throughout their marriage, the benefit of which is for them and for us all. It is not good to rush, and very good to be patient.

Another Visitor Living with Us

As usual, there is nary a dull moment at Harvest Haven. Some months ago, Mary Benson came to find some solace, comfort, direction, counsel and knowledge here after being abandoned by her husband, Jason. Though Mary has not come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as we do, she is interested in nutrition and organic food and has been helped in many ways at the farm. It has been good having her here.

We are thankful to have been accurate so far in our judgment of all that we have brought in for your and our health. There has been but one disappointment, that being the Teldon water filter we had a few years ago. We learned our lesson there and, even now, if someone has a complaint about it, warranty or no warranty, we would like to do something for you if and since your experience was less than satisfactory. Talk to us.

And on that note, I hereby request, yea, perhaps beg, all to let us know if somehow we failed to give you good product and service. Here is why I ask for this: Last summer we had a lady come to the Wednesday Farmer’s Market downtown on 6th St. and 3rd Ave., mentioning that she had purchased a jar of Harvest Haven jam. She used part of it but the rest began to spoil, something I had not encountered theretofore or since with our jam.

Was it her fault or ours? There can be many reasons for spoilage, as you know. Because we do not use preservatives in our jam and it has a low sugar content (sugar being a preservative), it is possible for our strictly organic jam to spoil sooner than conventional, if not cared for properly, i.e. keeping refrigerated, not letting sit out too long when using, and not contaminating with other substances.

Being slow on the uptake, I couldn’t think of what to do for her, not that she was directly asking for anything (“Just thought I’d let you know,” she said), but if I had another opportunity, I would give her two things: benefit of the doubt and another jar of jam. I wish we had at least taken her name and phone number. (I hope she sees this newsletter - if anyone happens to know who this lady is, please let us know.)

Back to my request of you. If anyone is unhappy (in any way) with how we have treated them or with our products, as was this lady, please come to us (speak up; don’t be embarrassed; don’t think yourself petty; we won’t bite) and let’s get the matter resolved, reasonably speaking. If you know of anyone else, let us know.

I don’t think it should be too difficult for any of our regular customers (and many new ones for that matter) to judge that our business continues to grow robustly, thanks to many factors, but thanks primarily to God, Who has engineered them. Harvest Haven keeps expanding, wholesale orders increase in quantity and frequency, and more people have been made available to serve you. We simply want to do right by our friends in ways acceptable and pleasing to God, treating you the way we would like to be treated ourselves. We enjoy our work and we enjoy having you stop by.

Organic Agriculture– Working to Harvest the True Potential

The wondrous balance and complexity of the creation that surrounds us is not apparent at first glance. I had a chance to explore one aspect of this at an advanced soil microbiology course this winter. Apart from the more obvious toxicity of the residue to the human consumer, the full extent of the devastating impact on the soil and its future productivity, caused by chemical usage in agriculture, is just now being realized.

A scientist from Oregon, Dr. Elaine Ingham (www.soilfoodweb.com), has dedicated most of her career to researching the potential of fostering soil microbiology to optimize agricultural yields. The results have been both “earth shattering” and “groundbreaking.” She has proven with overwhelming evidence that by restoring the full balance of microbiology to the soil, the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides could be eliminated while increasing the amount and quality of the produce.

Just think about that for a minute or two! Reality, as usual, flies in the face of so much that we have wrongly been taught.

This is no airy-fairy tale, like the petrochemical industry and their sponsored studies and advocates would have you believe. What Dr. Ingham has shown is that the natural bacteria and fungi of the soil, that which God, in His wisdom, placed there for our benefit, if properly cared for, can produce all or nearly all the nutrients needed by crops. With such practices implemented, the staggering amount of environmental pollution and human health impact caused by chemical farming can be eliminated, as well as the tremendous demand for fossil fuels to produce artificial fertilizers and pesticides.

The ramifications are monumental, proving DOW Chemical, Monsanto and associates are not only completely unnecessary but also exposing the enormous harm they do in destroying the production potential of our land.

Even without applying the higher skills and understanding of researchers like Elaine Ingham, organic agriculture clearly outperforms conventional agriculture, without any of the carcinogenic poisons and disastrous environmental and social impacts. This is corroborated by a newly released study from the University of Michigan noting 293 previous studies that prove organic gives higher yields than conventional:

Also, a bombshell study released from The National Academy of Sciences proves that the use of pesticides leads to a 30% decline in crop yields due to their toxic impact on beneficial soil microbiology:

Turkeys! Taking Orders Now!

Last year we were sold out of turkey and had to turn many away. This year we hope that won't happen. We increased production and so far it looks like we will have the best turkey ever, Lord willing. A Muslim Incident
(Unabridged)

Who can help but hear about the great world conflict between Jews and nominal Christians on the one hand (not to mention other religions) and Islam on the other? Many Westerners who naïvely think Islam can coexist in harmony with Christianity are not aware that Islam directly contradicts the Bible and foundational, essential tenets of Christianity.

For example, while Jesus Christ declared Himself the Son of God, Islam, by its prophet, Muhammad, declares that God has no son. In the Dome of the Rock, which has been established by Muslims on the Jewish Temple site in Jerusalem since the 7th century, A. D., is a plaque that simply says, “God has no son.” Islam declares that Jesus Christ was merely a prophet and not the Son of God, essentially calling Christ a liar. Their “holy book,” the Koran, declares that Jesus Christ was not crucified and that He was not raised from the dead on the third day.

[4.157] And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa [Jesus] son of Marium [Mary], the apostle of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure. [4.158] Nay! Allah took him up to Himself; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Furthermore, Islam, according to the Koran, ultimately gives infidels (non-Muslims) three choices: be a Muslim, be a slave to a Muslim, or don’t be at all. The majority of people are not aware of this. Here are some of the Koranic passages, called surahs, which plainly declare these things:

[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

[9.73] O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the destination.

[9.123] O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

[8.12] When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

[47.4] So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates.

I bring this topic up because on July 22nd, three young Muslim men entered our store, briefly browsed, picked up our website card - www.thepathoftruth.com - and asked, “What is this?” (This never happens, causing us to suspect the event was predetermined. On our site is an extensive section refuting the claims of Islam and exposing its pathologically violent nature.) Paul Cohen happened to be there, and answered that it is a spiritual website. He then asked them if they had red the Bible. The enquiring one defiantly declared that they do not read the Bible because they are Muslim. Paul told them that the Bible is a record of Jesus Christ, the Son of God Who came to give His life for mankind that we might have life.

Another replied to him that they do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, but the Koran says He is a prophet. Paul said that John the Baptist, whom Jesus called the greatest prophet born of a woman, said that he was unworthy to unlatch Jesus’ sandal. Obviously Jesus Christ is more than a prophet. The whole Bible, from its beginning, through Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets, testifies of Jesus Christ. This can be said of no other. He is no ordinary, or even extraordinary, man.

The apparent and tacit agreement of Muslims with nominal Christians about Jesus Christ is at best a shortfall of the truth, or worse, a ruse to pretend agreement, hypocritical and deceptive.

While Jesus Christ commands His disciples to lay down their lives and speak the truth of Him and His salvation to the whole world, forcing no religion upon anyone, Muslims believe Muhammad’s counsel in the Koran to spread their religion by the sword if necessary (and, obviously, it will be, if Muslims seek to convert the entire world, which they do seek to do in order to be faithful Muslims, as commanded by Muhammad, the Koran, their mullahs, and presumably, by their god, Allah).

Know that it is the extremist Muslims that are truly faithful to their religion as outlined in the Koran. The “moderates” are either ignorant of the Koran, as many nominal Christians are of the Bible, or are waiting for their time of advantage, as did Muhammad (as historically reported).

Paul was not rude or intentionally threatening in any way. He and Ingrid observed the men to be defiant, dismissive, angry, and with an air of arrogance and threat. They hurriedly left the store, declaring, “Allah Akbar” (“Allah is great”), disrespectfully leaving the door open behind them.

I say Canada along with the West has a huge and deadly problem within its borders. One need only consider but a few of many horrific events - the Twin Towers, the London bombings and arrests of homegrown, intelligent, educated Muslims, several of them medical doctors, the arrests in Canada of Muslims seeking to kill Stephen Harper and bomb the House of Commons, the Spanish bombings, the riots in Paris, the constant onslaught against Israel, Taliban oppression and tyranny in Afghanistan, hundreds of suicide bombings and beheadings, the burning of churches and killing of thousands of nominal Christians throughout Africa and Asia (news suppressed but available on the net from reputable organizations); the list goes on and on. “Extremists only,” you say? Hardly. Read the Koran.

We have the Star of David flying at Harvest Haven, the Israeli flag, which we fly in amity with Israel, acknowledging the physical, as well as the spiritual, Israel (true, born again Christians) to be the chosen of God. It is no secret that many Muslims are not only in direct conflict with Israel, but seek the complete annihilation of that nation. They tried to destroy it in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, and in a war of attrition since then. We are not naïve as to the implications of showing our solidarity with Israel.

Consider that while I can speak freely about or against many things, Canada as a whole has lost its freedom of religion and speech, particularly when it comes to speaking about Islam. Who can argue with the fact that our lives are in danger? Tell me knowledgeable people are not afraid. For those of you who think to safely ignore and avoid these issues, think again. The evidence is all around you, thickening and increasing.

Is Islam a religion of peace as claimed? Consider the worldwide testimonies of horrible atrocities; consider Osama Bin Laden’s and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s murderous declarations against the West and Israel; consider the fatwahs (kill orders) by educated Muslim clerics on movie makers such as Van Gogh in Holland, many journalists and writers and their publishers - Salmon Rushdie, for example, a citizen of Great Britain, who has had to live in isolation and governmental protection, simply for speaking about the Koran and Muhammad in his book, The Satanic Verses.

Let this be clear: Those that serve to assassinate are not radical, uneducated hotheads on their own; they are inspired by educated mullahs all over the world, including right here in Canada, Europe and the US. Read the Koran and see for yourself, and see that you are already very involved, whether you know it or not, like it or not. The Muslims are not here for nothing. They are not primarily the problem; we and our sins are. See how; read The Muslim Scourge.

We know that many have died for much less than what we publicly write here today, their lives cruelly, cowardly snuffed out without warning. At the very least they are fined and arraigned before the courts by the Human Rights Commission, and harassed legally to shut them up. Face it folks; unless your religion and speech are meaningless chatter, a bland diet for the weakest, a threat to nobody and of no value to anybody, you have lost your freedom of speech and religion, if it ever existed, and it has, relatively speaking, compared to its status today with the Muslim reality now establishing itself in our midst.

Am I guilty of religious intolerance or discrimination? I will not refuse a Muslim or anyone else any right or any thing that is coming to him or her, as to all others, whether it be service, goods, or whatever. If that person’s religion, however, teaches religious and human intolerance in the name of Islam or Muhammad or Allah (which the Koran does) or any other name, then we have a problem because our laws, which are meant to safeguard freedom of religion and speech, are found to be accomplishing the opposite, protecting the religious rights of those whose goal it is to coerce all others into a belief and submission against their conscience. Islam does not believe in religious freedom except for Islam, and its ultimate solution is certainly not a peaceful one toward other religions. Again, read the Koran for evidence in their own religious “holy” book!

And don’t believe the nonsensical excuse from Muslims that nobody can truly understand the Koran except they read it in Arabic. That is a fallacious, strategic argument to deny what is plainly taught in the Koran, and which millions upon millions of Muslims of many languages believe and either practice, or aspire to when having satisfactory opportunity to do so. If it is so difficult to understand the Koran, and misunderstanding it causes millions of people (including Arabs) to kill both others and themselves, then I suggest they employ clarity urgently.

Now who will those who think the Koran is misunderstood when translated from its mother tongue recommend to clarify it? Who is prepared to make the necessary changes to save tremendous bloodshed? The Ayatollahs? The mullahs? The Saudis? The heads of Islamic states such as Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, the Arab Emirates, Indonesia, or Pakistan? Should it be the Shiites or Sunnis? The Wahhabis? The multitudes of Jihadists? Who? The Arabs? Not very likely. You know why? The Koran says what it says in any language, and they prefer what it says and the meaning it gives. All are to be Muslims and woe to those who resist. The answer to this horrendous, modern dilemma is in the teachings listed above.

“We Bought the Farm”

Momma Cat

She was a cute kitten when we bought the farm in 1995. Little did we know what she would do for us. We don’t remember what her name was in the beginning, but she came to be known as “Momma Cat,” partly, I suppose, because she not only looked after her own kittens but others that needed her nurturing, either because they had lost their mother or were abandoned.

Momma Cat excelled as a mouser and provided for her family and other cats in the barn. She knew her way around the farm and we would often find her in the chicken coop, cleaning up the mice. The chickens did not mind her; she was one of them.

She suffered many injuries throughout her life, some sustained while protecting her kittens from prowling tomcats, but she always rebounded. One time her leg was badly injured and we tried to treat it, but she would not let us and disappeared. When she came back, Mark thought he had seen a ghost, not expecting her to return. She was fully recovered. Many times we would see that she did not look well, and we would try to treat her, but she had her own excellent Healing Source independent of us. She even lost an eye in a scrap, but the mice had no advantage, it seems. She was still a good mouser.

Momma Cat was very well mannered and always waited for her milk to be served, although, as she grew older, the manners slipped a bit and she sat in her dish and waited for the milk.

One afternoon, she sat at the patio door with her daughters all lined up in a row beside her. Lois was vacuuming, and as the vacuum moved back and forth across the dining room floor, so did their heads, in perfect unison.

After the dogs were put away for the night, the cats came out to play. She was then out and about, purring around your leg. She was always patient, even when children tested her, petting and poking.

Momma Cat is missing again, only this time it seems too long an absence. We know she lived only one life, though if any cat seemed to live nine, it was she. Surviving, serving and providing unselfishly, her example and the quality of her life were worth many lives, perhaps more than nine. She has even arranged to continue her legacy for us, leaving a daughter that is a lot like her.
