Hemp SeedsOf the 3 million plus edible plants that grow on Earth, no other plant source that we know of can compare with the nutritional profile of hemp seeds. Both the complete protein and the essential oils contained in hemp seed are in ideal ratios for human nutrition. Sixty-five percent of its protein content is in the form of globulin edestin (from the Greek "edestos," meaning edible). The body is able to use hemp seed protein in its raw state, while soybeans must be processed. Manitoba Harvest hemp contains no THC (the psychoactive substance in marijuana) and no gluten or toxins. The green-coloured fragments in hemp seeds reveal the high chlorophyll content which makes them a natural detoxifier. Hemp seeds have been eaten since ancient times and have been known to heal many conditions. It is the most practical green food! Hemp Seeds are delicious raw proteinIf you have eaten other brands of hemp seeds before, you're in for a real treat with Manitoba Harvest Organic Hemp Seeds as they are fresher than what is typically available. Pour them into soups, salads, shakes, or sprinkle on cooked whole grains for breakfast – you will be satisfied well past noon! They are a versatile food that can be added to pasta dishes, muffins, healthy cookies, or granola bars. The possibilities are limitless. They are a superior protein supplement to costly soy-based powders. Hemp Seed protein contains all nine essential amino acidsIt features a high content of the two sulphur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine, usually under represented in vegetable proteins. Depending somewhat on variety, hemp protein provides a very attractive amino-acid spectrum and nutritional value, superior to that of soy protein. Hemp seed protein also contains a high proportion of glutamic acid, an important neurotransmitter that often is in short supply under stress. Hemp Seeds contain a marvelous vegetable oil that is 78% polyunsaturatedOf all vegetable oils this is one of the highest proportions of Essential Fatty Acids needed for energy. The EFA’s in hemp seed are naturally protected from oxidation by hemp’s own vitamin E (that is why the hemp seed can be exposed to air, unlike ground flax). Hemp seed oil is also quite low in monounsaturated (<12%) and saturated fats (typically 8.0% or lower), all in their natural, heart-friendly state. Hemp Seeds are a rich source of Essential Fatty AcidsOmega-6 (linolenic acid or LA) and Omega 3 (alpha linolenic acid or ALA) are called essential fatty acids because our bodies cannot manufacture them. They are essential for healthy cellular function, yet can only be acquired through diet. Hemp Seeds are a good source of Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA)GLA helps the body to produce eicosanoids (hormone precursors); therefore, many people benefit by normalizing the endocrine system. Women find hemp oil in their diets helps relieve pre-menstrual syndrome and extreme symptoms of menopause. Nutritional Comparison of Hemp Seed to Soybeans

Note: Soybeans have the anti-nutritional factor, called trypsin inhibitor, which prevents protein absorption. It has been observed that more soy equates to less health and reduced thyroid function. And a significant portion of the population is allergic to soy. The protein in hemp seed is a much higher quality, easily digestible, and therefore virtually non-allergenic.
