Our chickens start their day with a burst of enthusiasm as they are let out of the hen house. Prepared for them is a feast of their favorite freshly picked dandelion greens, organic feed mixed on the farm and Grander
Living Water. Occasionally, they even get fresh cow's milk.
Every day is a new adventure as they are out in the sunshine and fresh air, busily scratching around in the dirt, as chickens should do.
Around 11.00 o'clock in the morning, the hens begin their daily routine of
laying eggs. The eggs they produce for us are fertilized, and are rich in Omega
3's, contain 18 amino acids including the 9 essential ones, protein, vitamins
and minerals. Our eggs have a thick shell, a brightly colored yolk, and a firm
white...how a healthy egg should be.
Our eggs are not only good because of what goes into the chickens, but also because of what does not. Our chickens are not vaccinated and do not receive any antibiotics or hormones.
The eggs are gathered, graded, and candled in our government-inspected egg grading station, on the farm.
What a blessing to be able to have such a powerful food source, rich in flavour and nutrition! We have had many people tell us, enthusiastically, not only that our eggs are good, or great, but the best they have ever tasted, bar none. Does anyone disagree?
I moved to Helena, Montana, and became involved with the people at Harvest
Haven Market Farm about five years ago. Whenever we would visit Canada, we
would bring back several dozen eggs per trip.
The Harvest Haven eggs were the best eggs available.
Before I moved to Montana, I had never heard the word, "organic," and
did not have a clue about how conventional chickens were raised on factory
farms. Despite this, for the last few years before moving, my body reacted
negatively against eating eggs. I was not allergic to them, and I did not
dislike them (actually I liked them), but anytime I thought about
eating eggs, I felt nauseous.
My body prevented me from eating and enjoying them.
When I moved to Montana, I began to eat Harvest Haven eggs and organic food.
The negative reaction completely disappeared.
Not
only
so, but
I began
to crave eggs, and began to also like the yolks somewhat runny, which I could
never stand before.
Harvest Haven eggs are the best eggs I have ever eaten!
